You want to get started in this whole ‘make money online’ thing, but where the heck do you start?

You’re hardly an expert, and how on earth do you find a profitable niche?

I hear you!

And make no mistake, we ALL start here.

Finding a profitable niche could be the difference between bucket loads of passive income on tap, or a whole lot of nothing but blood, sweat and tears.

Getting this shit dialed early is THE most important decision you could make, and thankfully, this post is going to show you exactly how to do it.

“Buckle up Buttercup” and get prepared to position yourself in a profitable niche that actually makes money…

BUT I SUCK AT EVERYTHING?

Oh the doubt monkey. Rearing it’s ugly head around every corner.

This is something that everyone deals with (on a regular basis) and it means that you’re actually pushing yourself out of your comfort zone. And that’s a good thing.

The negative self-talk can get so loud it’s overwhelming.

If you’re not quite sure where to start here’s a few pointers:

  1. What are your core passions and interests?
  2. What skills have you developed over the years?
  3. What knowledge have you acquired?
  4. What challenges have you overcome?
  5. What would other people say you do really well?
  6. What do people ask your advice for?

BUT I’M NOT AN EXPERT?

So you’re not an expert (yet)?

That’s not necessarily a bad thing.

Let me explain.

In every niche the overwhelming majority of the people are absolute beginners. Usually upwards of 90%!

So, even if you’re not an expert, the good news is you don’t have to be.

You just need to know more than most people (which considering the vast majority are beginners, shouldn’t be too hard).

On top of that, not being an expert has other advantages too.

Oftentimes, experts lose sight of the struggles of the beginner and take for granted the small details that newbies struggle with.

The biggest question you need to ask yourself is this:

“Can I help people take action, stay accountable and produce results?”

This is far more important than being an expert.

What I’m trying to say is that no matter what stage of the expertise continuum you find yourself, you have a lot to offer.

There’s a teacher for everyone.

WHAT ARE THE BIG VALUE NICHES

The big 4 Mega niches are:

  1. Health
  2. Making Money
  3. Relationships
  4. Hobbies

These are the mega niches that have proven to be, and continue to be the most profitable.

If you can tie your niche idea into one of these mega niches, there’s a good chance that you’re on your way to a profitable niche idea.

LINKING YOUR NICHE TO HUMAN DESIRES

Once you have your mega niche set, refine it further by linking it to any/many of the primal human desires. Do this right, and you’ll be onto a winner.

PRIMAL HUMAN DESIRES

HEALTH – Physical, Spiritual, Mental

SECURITY – Safety, Strength, Wealth, Loyal Tribe

LOVE – Social Connection, Romance, Sex, Family

STATUS – Validation, Attractiveness, Success

PURPOSE – Contribution, Legacy, Honour

POWER – Control, Influence, Freedom, Knowledge, Vengeance

HOW TO DIFFERENTIATE YOURSELF FROM OTHERS WITHIN YOUR NICHE

When you’re in the thick of researching for your profitable niche idea you may find yourself overwhelmed with the sheer amount of competition.

That’s why it’s important to find ways to differentiate yourself from the others within your niche.

To do this, we’re going to use the EPOC technique.

  • Expertise
  • Problem
  • Outcome
  • Character

Lets drill down into a little more detail on each of the above.

Expertise

You (whether you know it or not) have a unique skill set. This expertise and experience give you a unique value proposition that can help separate you from others within your niche.

Problem

Maybe you are able to identify very specific problems that your audience has. This could be the degree of seperation from your competitors that you need.

Outcome

Focusing your efforts on creating an outcome oriented message will serve help separate you from 90% of your competitors.

Character

Your character is something that’s unique, and you need to let it shine. Being your authentic self and being uniquely you will separate you from a sea of ‘vanilla’ out there in there in the market.

Lean into your character strengths and let them shine.

START WITH THE END IN MIND

The word ‘blog’ just sounds so shit doesn’t it. When I hear the word blog I just think of some precocious couple documenting their backpacking trip around Thailand.

The word ‘blog’ just doesn’t do justice to the behemoth of a money making machine these businesses can be.

So, when I say “Start with the end in mind”, I mean you want to make sure there is a proven market within your niche for these products:

  • Affiliate products
  • Ebooks
  • Online Courses
  • Coaching/consulting

If there isn’t already people within your niche offering these products that’s a bad sign. Don’t make the mistake of thinking that you can be the one to change all of that.

Chances are others have already tried and failed. It’s much better to find yourself a proven profitable niche and carve out your own slice of the pie.

CONCLUSION

So, to wrap this all up, you must care enough to learn what peoples problems are and create solutions to help them. That’s how a true ninja uncovers their niche.

You see, it’s not so much ‘finding’ a profitable niche, but more ‘uncovering’ a profitable niche. People tend to be very bad at explaining their problems and what they want.

A famous example of this is summed up by Henry Ford:

“If I had asked people what they want, they’d have said faster horses!”

Henry Ford

So to truly tap into a profitable niche you have to listen to what people are saying, find out what they want, and give them what they need.

If you take the time to refine your niche (more specific the better), you’ll have a solid framework, and message, to build a blog that really makes money.

Peace out.

Rowan.
