Limited Company Of One

The No Bullshit - Super Simple Step by Step Guide to Setting up a Limited Company in the UK For Solopreneurs.

It’s all so, oh I don’t know…

...official.

Even the mere mention of the word “Limited Company” is enough to send shivers down the spine of many, and for good reason.  It’s just so damn complex.

It’s the terminology that got me at first:

  • Dividends
  • Shares
  • Tax vouchers
  • Meeting Minutes
  • PAYE

Urrrrgggghhhh.  And, that’s just the beginning!

It’s just so god damn daunting that it ends up becoming stifling.

Where on earth do you even start?

If you haven’t already stuck your head in the sand and wished the world would just suck you up and spit you out, then you kind of have three options.

Option 1.  Get an accountant to do it.

There are so many reasons why getting an accountant to set this up for you is a great idea.

  1. It’s easy - Just pay them and they’ll do all of the work for you.
  2. It’ll be done properly.
  3. It’s pretty quick.
  4. You don’t have to learn anything new.

All of these are great reasons to hire an accountant to do all of this for you…

But (and this is something that took me two Limited companies to find out), in the process of just handing it all over to someone else you give all of your power away.

Let me explain.

The setup process of a limited company can be so utterly confusing that you - as the Solopreneur in this equation - literally have no idea what’s going on.

You don’t know how to run your accounts, manage payroll, issue dividends, etc.

You don’t know how to do, well, pretty much anything.

You’re uninformed, disempowered, clueless.

This is not a good place to be and it’ll cost you a fortune paying your accountant to keep everything up to date for you.

Not very cost-effective, and hardly a smart way to start a small company that’s barely even profitable.

Option 2.  Accounting Firm/Software

It’s possible to get your company set up for free as part of certain accounting software which on the face of it sounds great.

Not only do you get great accounting software for your new limited company, but you also get their help too.

I’ve tried this option in the past and I actually really like the idea, however, here’s the catch.

Not only do you remain disempowered, and uninformed, but you also have a hefty monthly fee to pay too.  I’m talking about upwards of £70.

Granted, that’s not a lot to pay if you’re making a healthy profit, but if you’re not (yet), then £70 per month - every month - is an expense that’s just going to eat away at your savings.

It’s cheaper than hiring a dedicated accountant, but not much.

Option 3. Figure it all out yourself

You might think I’m talking shit here, but this would be my recommended pathway out of the three options.

Here’s why.

As a Solopreneur - company of one - you need to know the ins and outs of all areas of your business.

And one of the biggest - if not THE biggest - is accounting.  It’s pretty much like the heartbeat of your business.

But, and it’s a big but, this can take a long - very long - time to fully understand.

It’s not unachievable, heck, all of the information is out there on the internet if you look hard enough, but it will take you a lot of time.

This option is virtually free, however, it will come at the cost of considerable time, and (if you’re anything like me) much frustration.

Oops, I kind of lied… There is a 4th option!

Ok, ok.  I kind of lied.  Well, a white-lie at least.

But, there is a fourth option…

It is possible to set up your Limited Company correctly without costing a fortune, without wasting hours and hours of your time trying to figure things out for yourself, with no ongoing fees, and in a way that isn’t going to bore you to death.

You’re going to love it!

You can go through the course at your own pace, at any time, on any device, anywhere in the world.

Why Limited Company Of One is different

Did I mention it’s cheap AF?

The other options out there: Accountant or Premium Accounting Software do not come cheap.  Expect a minimum of £900 per year, and that’s a minimum!

With Limited Company Of One it’s just one small payment and that’s it.  You’ll have the skills to run your company for £0 per month. No ongoing fees, nothing.

Power to the people

As a Solopreneur you NEED to have a firm understanding of your finances.  To stay lean, and to reduce your operating costs it’s essential that you have at the very least a basic understanding of taxation and accounting.

Limited Company Of One will give you the tools, specialized knowledge and confidence to tackle complex company accounting with ease.

Lean and mean

Setting up a limited company for a business with multiple different shareholders, directors, secretaries, employees, etc. is a very different process to set up a limited company for a single individual, eg. You.

Navigating this process as an individual is a brain fuck to say the least, and mega, mega confusing.

Limited Company of One will teach you only what you need, and nothing else.  This course will teach you the absolute necessities of setting up, operating and getting paid as a limited company and nothing more.

Super lightweight, super lean.

It's idiot proof!

If you go the solo route and try to self learn this whole process (good luck if that’s your chosen path by the way) then you’ll very likely spend much of your time going around in circles (trust me, I’ve been there).

Whatsmore, 99% of what you will learn on the internet is not tailored to Solopreneurs so the vast majority of the information out there is plain useless.

Limited Company Of One is Lazor-focused and tailored specifically to Solopreneurs and their acute needs.  It’ll take you literally step by step, in simple layman’s terms guiding you through the entire process.

Zero Fee Tools

Company accounting, business banking, multi-currency accounts and limited company payroll software don’t come cheap, in fact, they’ll likely put you behind the eight-ball before you’ve even begun.

Limited Company Of One uses a unique cocktail of tools, carefully selected from literally hundreds of options, specifically tailored to the needs of digital Solopreneurs that often deal with multiple currencies.  All of the tools I’ll be walking you through are FREE, with zero ongoing fees.

What Limited Company Of One is NOT!

Tax Advice

Under absolutely no circumstances should the material in the course be considered, legal, financial, accounting or taxation advise.  I am not a qualified accountant or financial advisor. I’m just a little fella on the internet.

Limited companies in general

This course is designed specifically for use by Solopreneurs, or put another way, companies comprised of a single individual.  It is not suitable for businesses with more than one shareholder or with more than one employee.

A quick process

There are many steps within a company set up process which take time for government agencies to process, and as such, impact the speed with which it takes to get set up.  These are obviously things that are out of the control of this course, so you need to bear that in mind. Expect the setup process to take between 2 - 4 weeks.

FAQ’s

How long will the course take to complete?

The course is built in a structured way to get you set up as quickly as possible.  However, there are parts of the process where you’ll have to rely on government agencies to process your application and mail certain documentation to you.  Because of this I would allow between 2 - 4 weeks to complete all of the course material.

How long do I have access to the course?

You have lifetime access to the course.

How do I get a refund?

I offer a pretty wild 60-day “my dog ate it” refund policy.  If you haven’t received massive value from this course then quite frankly I don’t deserve your money.  Simply send me an email to rowan@rowanclifford.io and I’ll issue you a refund straight away.

Will it work if I don’t live in the UK?

Although I think you’d still get massive value from the course even if you didn’t live in the UK, this course is UK specific, so I wouldn’t recommend buying it unless you’re setting your company in any other jurisdiction.

Do you offer support?

I’m here to help in any way that I can.  Although I don’t offer support as such, I’ll always be here to help.
